Elisabeth Margeurite Sophie Lenes (nee Lapp) began dancing in Heaven at the feet of her Savior on August 24, 2017, after a sojourn on Earth filled with love. Her family prayed with her and said farewell as she passed into eternity. She is survived by her tender husband Steven and her children Felicity (Walter Voit), Stephanie Jean (Gerry George), Atlee Jennings (affianced to Mary Angela Stagmaier) and Graham, who carry her legacy as a charge. Her eyes and beautiful smile live on in her birthday twin and first granddaughter, Margaret Ann Elisabeth Voit "Maeve."
She was born September 30, 1958 in Alsace, France to Daniel et Madeleine Lapp who raised her in a family of seven children. After growing up in Mittelbergheim, she lived in Switzerland, England and Zaire prior to meeting her beloved husband of 35 years, Steven John Lenes.
He persuaded her to marry him, move to America, and start a family. She excelled at every task she undertook, but in no forum was she more adept than in ministering to the hearts and souls of those around her. She never met a stranger, and frequently delayed family trip itineraries because she had gone deep into a conversation with a new dear friend. Her children learned from her that every endeavor deserved passion and dedication, and in her many purposes she always strove to be worthy of the commendation: Well done, good and faithful servant. She home schooled all four children and was proud of them for all achieving terminal education, but counted it an even richer success that her purposeful hospitality, kindness and love for the Lord Jesus has taken root in each of their hearts and hearths.
She was a legend for her cooking, and even more for the way that all were welcome at her table. After Graham left for college, Elisabeth earned a Master's degree in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Seminary, formalizing what had long been her life's work.
She is mourned by her nuclear and adoptive family, as well as her father, Daniel Lapp, brothers, Michel, Daniel, Freddy and Luc and sisters, Rachel and Miriam and their families in France and Switzerland, and her family-in-love, Tim and Vera Lenes, Barbara Lenes, Trudy and Paul Regan, Bruce and April Lenes and their families in the US. She joins her mother, Madeleine, her sister-in-law, Judy and her Tante Grete in heaven.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life at St. Peter's Church in Mount Pleasant at 1307 Porchers Bluff Road at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
