Eli Joseph Streit Eli Joseph Streit, 99, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Esta Goldberg Streit entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 30, 2018. His graveside service will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery (Maryville) at 12:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Eli was born July 25, 1918 in Bronx, New York, son of the late Samuel M. Streit and late Minnie Zimmerman Streit. He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII, and he was a co owner of J. L. Goldberg, Inc. He was a life long member of Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue. He was a former member of the Jewish Community Center and Charleston Elks Lodge #242,. And he was a loving husband, father, Poppa and friend to so many.
The family expresses their thanks to his many caregivers, especially Berta, Maryann, and all of the Roper Hospice and Savannah Grace at The Palms staff.Eli is survived by his wife of 73 years, Esta, two daughters: Harriet S. Stein (Howard) of Mount Pleasant and Rachel S. Peyser of Charleston, son, Samuel M. Streit of Charleston, six grandchildren: David (Jill), Marc (Lorin), Philip (Katie), Jennifer (Robert), Joshua(Ann), Jenna (Marshall) and seven great grandchildren: Jack, Nathan, Ethan, Sylvie, Luke, Ellie and Madeline.
