Eleanore Marie Schafer

June 3, 1932 — June 17, 2010

Entered into eternal rest the morning of Thursday, June 17, 2010, Eleanore Marie Schafer of Bluffton, South Carolina.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Two O'clock, at the Unitarian Universalist Church Congregation of the Lowcountry, 110 Malphrus Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.  Inurnment will be private.  ARRANGEMENTS BY J.HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.


Born June 3, 1932 in Bronx, NY, Ms. Schafer was the daughter of the late Charles Schafer and Eleanore Altman Schafer.  She was a Social Worker for the County of Rockland and a member of Unitarian Universalist Church of Bluffton.  In Bluffton/Hilton Head, Eleanore Schafer volunteered as a mental health social worker at Volunteers in Medicine (VMI) and was Chairperson of Family Promise for the Unitarian Church of which she was an active member.  She was active in the Hilton Head Lion's Club, the Sun City Democratic Club and a frequent participant in Drinking Liberally. Eleanore was on the Board of Directors of the Children's Aid Programs for Africa (CAPA) and made 18 trips to Kenya.


Survivors include her four children: Joseph J. Gross of Port Jervis, NY, Eleanore A. Gross of Jersey City, NJ, Christina Gaudet and husband Joseph of Tequesta, FL and Adriane M. Dianis of New City, NY; five grandchildren: Joseph E. Gaudet, Lucas Gross, Gabrielle A. Gaudet, Genna Gross and Liza Dianis.  Her granddaughter, Jillian Gross preceded Ms. Schafer in death.


In lieu of flowers her children request that memorials be sent to the Children's Aid Programs for Africa, PO Box 474, Piermont, New York 10968
