Eleanor "Ellie" Anderson Volk was born on March 5, 1940 in Washington, DC, the only child of George and Astrid Anderson. She grew up in Silver Spring, MD and attended Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. She also earned her Master's Degree in Education. She worked briefly in a lab at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD before taking a teaching position with the Baltimore County Public School System where she spent her career teaching Biology and other science classes. She married William M. Hull, Jr. on March 3, 1962 and after his passing in 1987, found love once again, marrying George D. Volk on July 7, 1990. Twice widowed, she relocated to Mount Pleasant, SC in 2004 to be close to family.
Ellie loved spending time with her family, especially her two daughters and five grandchildren. She loved her church, Hibben United Methodist and regularly attended Sunday School and her Circle while she was physically able. She loved her friends at the Palms, where she was a member of the Welcoming Committee and Book Club, and enjoyed playing Mahjong and Rummikub. Ellie was fascinated by the natural world and in her younger years enjoyed traveling across the country camping and hiking with her family, as well as visiting her father on Cape Cod and spending time on the beach collecting scallop shells with her daughters. She loved the theater and was an avid reader, having a particular affinity for mysteries. She enjoyed fresh local seafood, a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc, ice cream and dark chocolate but is remembered most by her family for her lasagna and BBQ recipes.
Ellie was intelligent and strong, resilient in the face of life's challenges. She suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for nearly fifty years, determined to live a full life despite the physical struggle.
Surviving her are her daughters, Christina Hull Schlosser (Rodney) of Mount Pleasant, SC and Jennifer Hull Frank (Reade) of Greenbrae, CA, and her grandchildren, Nathaniel and Steven Schlosser and Riley, Cole and Piper Frank.
