Eleanor Francis Johnson

October 6, 1918 — July 24, 2011

Eleanor Francis Corbin Johnson, 92, wife of the late Gaines Walter Johnson, Jr. of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011. The relatives and friends of Eleanor Johnson are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in East Cooper Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Georgetown, SC at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. 


Mrs. Johnson was born on October 6, 1918 in Shenandoah, Virginia, daughter of the late Claud Corbin and Maud Varney Corbin. She was the owner and operator of Your Beauty Salon in Mt. Pleasant, SC.  One of the founding members of East Cooper Baptist Church, she volunteered with the church's prison ministry at Lieber Correctional Facility, where she also taught Bible classes on Mondays. Through her devotion to East Cooper Baptist Church, she helped with the Pregnancy Crisis Ministry, Seaman's Ministry, and the Homeless Ministry.  In addition, she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and went on the mission trip to Moldova to build an orphanage when she was in her 80's.  Deeply dedicated to the Lord, Eleanor has touched many, many lives over several generations.  A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was also active with the Young Republicans. 


 She is survived by her daughters, Susan E. Basha of Sullivan's Island, SC and Patricia J. Ward of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Terrill "Terry" Johnson, and her grandson, Richard "Ricky" E. Ward, Jr. 


The family asks that memorial donations be made in Eleanor's memory to the "Lottie Moon Christmas Offering" c/o East Cooper Baptist Church, 361 Egypt Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC  29464
