Eldena McKenzie Ramos, 80, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Robert T. Ramos, Jr. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 29, 2019. Her funeral service will be held Monday, April 1, 2019 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Eldena was born May 1, 1938 in Lake City, South Carolina, daughter of the late Carl McKenzie and Maude Wyndham McKenzie. She graduated from Rivers High School in 1957. She was a retired administrative assistant with the South Carolina Commission for The Blind. Eldena was a member of Northbridge Baptist Church of West Ashley.
Eldena had a passion for politics, fashion and food. She was known for her big smile, loving heart and sense of humor. She was a survivor who dealt with many health ailments over the years. The joke was, as told by her doctor on Wednesday, "Cats don't have anything on your mom." In the end, though, death catches us all, and it was Mama's time. We are blessed to have had her with us.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert T. Ramos, Jr. of Charleston SC; two daughters, Rosalind R. Gillie (Scott) of Mount Pleasant, SC and Roberta P. O'Meara (Paul) of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren, Kristen Gillie, Maddie Gillie, Matthew Gillie, Marshall Gillie, Nicholas Pedotto and Nathan Pedotto.
Memorials may be made to Epworth Children's Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205.
