Elaine Bates Smith

Elaine Bates Smith of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 3, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at North Charleston United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Family will receive friends after the service in Davis Hall. There will also be a private service at a later date at Eccles United Methodist Church Cemetery in Huger, South Carolina.

Elaine was born on November 20th, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina. The daughter of Marion Dempsey Bates and Harriet Sease Bates, she grew up in North Charleston. Elaine graduated from Columbia College and later received a Masters Degree in Education from The Citadel. She was retired after working many years in the field of education as a teacher, media specialist and administrator.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, William Michael Smith, daughter Laurin Smith Collar (William) and granddaughters, Bates Kenneth and Laney Smith, a sister, Nell Bates Beasley, a special niece Michelle Eleanor Beasley, many family members and treasured friends.
