Effie Gaynell Grantham Maddray

Effie Gaynell Grantham Maddray, 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of John Leroy Maddray entered into eternal rest Friday, November 3, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Effie Gaynell Grantham was born September 11, 1922 in Ruffin, S.C. while they were visiting her grandmother. She resided in her early years in Jessup, Georgia. She was the daughter of Oscar Lee Grantham and Ola Idell Bailey. She had one sister name Edna Earl Grantham Kop Chavis who is deceased. Mrs. Maddray was a founding member of Ashley River Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher over many years and served in other capacities over the years within the church. She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook and seamstress.

She was married to John Leroy Maddray on November 1st 1940 and remained so until his death. She was a military wife and kept things going while he was away as a Hurricane hunter and World War II pilot. They had three children; John Thomas Maddray, Barbara Joyce Maddray Caputo and Jeannine Denise Maddray Clearman, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Justin Bryce Maddray and his wife Andrea Bree, Thomas Reed Maddray and his wife Lisa Annette Jenkins, Angela Maria Self, Mark Caputo and his wife Amanda, Christopher Caputo and his wife Barbara, Katie Golden and her husband Don and John Joyner, Ann-Marie Quinn, Ryan Edwin Quinn and John Cameron Quinn, Joshua Clearman, Stacy Adel Clearman, and Jessica Clearman. The great grandchildren are John Robert Brendan Maddray, James Ian Maddray, Korenna Maegan Maddray, Megan Caputo, Jacqueline Caputo, Anthony Caputo, Ty Golden, Alex Golden, Miriah Caputo, Gracilyn Caputo, Ryan Caputo,and Annalisa Self.
