Edwin Walter Meredith, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest Wednesday, February 1, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy. at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary, one hour prior to the service. Burial services will be held in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro, MD, on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Edwin was born October 22, 1930 in Washington, DC, the first son of the late Edwin Levi Luce Meredith and Pearl Irene Perry Meredith. He was a Civil Engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was an Air Force Veteran. Edwin was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church and then St. Philip’s Church.
After his retirement, Ed kept busy with a variety of activities. He helped with the children’s choirs at Ashley River Baptist Church. He worked on archeological digs at Timnah and Bethsaida, Israel. He wrote a Biblically and historically based book. He traveled the U.S. and Europe visiting friends and family. He renovated the house he had built himself on James Island. Ed enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing bridge, playing his piano, building things in his woodworking shop, and hosting family dinners. He volunteered for many years at Water Mission assembling water chlorinators. He is survived by his three daughters: Cheryl Meredith Nikides (Bill) of Billings, MT, Julia Elizabeth Meredith, Jane Meredith Cooke (Mark) all of Charleston, SC; brother, Robert Meredith of Murrells Inlet, SC; and seven grandchildren: Meredith Nikides, Martha Burleson, Rachel Simonis, Seth DiAsio, Joel Cooke, Hannah Marquis and Sarah Cooke.
Edwin was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Omanella Hilliard Meredith, and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Nikides.
