Edwin S. Epstein

Edwin S. Epstein, III passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 11th, 2021, surrounded by his family, including his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara G. Epstein and his three sons. Edwin was born March 15, 1931 in Peoria, Illinois, and was raised in Augusta, Georgia. He was the son of Edwin Sigmund Epstein, Jr. and Esther Berg Epstein. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Jerome Epstein and his sister, Barbara Ann Epstein.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his three sons, Murry G. Epstein (Maggie), David B. Epstein (Susan) and Mark A. Epstein (Linda), all of Charleston, SC; his brother, Julian D. Epstein (Pat) of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren: Rebecca Epstein (Jackie), Allison Moore (Garrett), Daniel Epstein (Rebecca), Jason Epstein, Robert Epstein, Rachel Neal (Ryan); and nine-great grandchildren: Kendi, Sheppard, Emmett, Asher, Everly, Silas, Lawton, Ellis and Jackson.

Edwin received his degree in Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1952, where he was also a member of the diving team. After graduation, he served in the US Navy and retired as Commander. His time in the service inspired a lifelong love of travel and passion for adventure. Following his retirement from the Navy, he continued to use his engineering talents at Siegels, Inc. for 25 years and later, at Southern Components. Edwin loved his family fiercely and always showed up when he was needed. That love flowed over into a multitude of lifelong friendships spanning the globe. Edwin loved gardening, the newest cars, boats and technology and was most often found helping out. Last, but not least, Edwin was a faithful member of K.K.B.E. Congregation for over 50 years.

There will be a private burial at Beaufort National Cemetery and A Celebration of Life at the end of April. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
