Edward Heriot Sparkman, III Edward Heriot Sparkman, III, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Merle Hodges Sparkman entered into eternal rest Friday, October 5, 2018. Services will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Edward was born October 13, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Carl Otto Witte Sparkman and Mary Rhett Simonds Sparkman. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Barnwell Rhett Sparkman Webb.
He was a retired Commercial Real Estate Broker. Edward served in the US Army as an Instructor at the Missle School at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL from 1952 - 1955. He graduated from Georgia Tech and received his MBA from Harvard Business School. Edward was a member of the St. Cecilia Society, Carolina Yacht Club, Charleston Club, Charleston Men's Chorus, Son of Colonial Wars, Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Clergy Society and South Carolina Society.
He served on the Vestry at St. Michael's Church, Treasurer of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and President Kiwanis Club Charleston. He is survived by his three daughters, Merle S. Tamsberg and Mary Barnwell Rhett Sparkman both of Charleston, Jane Denmark Sparkman of Mt. Pleasant, SC, son, Edward H. Sparkman IV (Kathy) of Marietta, GA, seven grandchildren: Edward McCue Henry Tamsberg (Charity), William Templeton Tamsberg, Jr., Sarah Simonds Tamberg, Keating Lewis Simons IV (Becca), Matthew Robert Heriot Sparkman (Alexa), Amanda Katherine Sparkman, Anne Tamsberg Pope (Mason), five great-grandchildren.
