Edward Robert McKitrick

Edward Robert McKitrick, 92, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Patricia Lombard McKitrick entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 13, 2024. His memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 26th. Visitation will start at 9:00 am, with Service at 10:00 am, followed by a reception at 11:00 am in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd, Mount Pleasant SC, all are welcome. The family will depart for the Beaufort National Cemetery at noon where the burial will be held with Military Honors.

Bob, as his family and friends called him, was born January 6, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan; son of the late Edward R. McKitrick, and the late Katherine Agnes Thiery. After graduating from the University of Detroit in 1955, where he was a member of the Blue Key Society, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity (President), and the InterFraternity Council (President); he joined the United States Navy which started him on a career as a Naval Officer obtaining the rank of Lt. Commander before he retired at the Charleston Naval Weapon Station in 1977. He served as a Navy deep sea diver then promotions transferred him to several ships across his career that deployed to areas in Alaska, Europe, and the western Pacific including the Vietnam War arena.

After Naval retirement, he obtained a Masters in Business from Webster University and then pursued a love of teaching, sharing his knowledge of finances and accounting with students in the area.

Bob was a man of unbreakable integrity who loved his family above all else. He was supportive of Scouting becoming a Boy Scout Master as well as a Girl Scout cookie chairman for which he received a Girl Scout pin he wore proudly.

His sincere good nature, respect for everyone and dedication to duty will not be forgotten; nor will his dry sense of humor.

In addition to his wife of nearly 65 years, he is survived by three children, Edward James McKitrick (Laura) of Charlotte, NC, Patricia McKitrick Ladd (Clayton) of Danville, VA and Shannon Kathleen McKitrick of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Shay Ladd and Raymond Ladd; Sister-in-Law Barbara Bagby of Kernersville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
