Edward Joseph Lieb, 87, of Florence, South Carolina, husband of Gloria Hughes Lieb entered into eternal rest Monday, September 22, 2025. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
Born on August 3, 1938, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Edward was the son of the late Camillus Lieb and the late Dorothy Gehrdes Lieb. He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University, and served his country by being commissioned in the United States Navy in 1962. Edward was proud to hold the rank of Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1964.
Following his military service, Edward utilized his engineering skills at Sonoco Flexible Packaging, where he advanced to become a Chief Engineer. His dedication and expertise made a significant impact in Hartsville, South Carolina, during his time there.
Ed Lieb was a devoted husband, father, and “Pop Pop” whose greatest joy was his family. He was a tenderhearted man, known for his storytelling, sense of humor, and love of history, trains, ships, and fishing. Above all, he cherished his wife, Gloria, and their life together. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Hughes Lieb of Florence, SC; his two sons, Joseph Lieb (Jessica) of Knightdale, NC, and Michael Lieb of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and four grandchildren, Jude, Noah, Simon, and Abel. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Watt of York, PA.
A Funeral Service to honor Edward's life will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
