Edward "Bud" Norvell Johnson, 91, of 175 Market Street, Charleston, South Carolina, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 20, 2017 in First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Bud was born September 11, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama, son of the late Samuel Lewis Johnson and the late Kathleen Spotswood Norvell. Educated in Charleston Schools, he was a graduate of the College of Charleston. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving as a battlefield medic.
He was in the insurance business for over sixty years. He began his career in Birmingham, Alabama, and then followed his career path with Johnson and Johnson Insurance in Charleston. At a later time, he was an independent agent with Insurance Underwriters/Edward Johnson Agency. After retirement from his agency, he was affiliated with Anderson Insurance. During his lengthy career he held a number of property and casualty, as well as life insurance designations.
He was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club and a lifelong member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, serving on the vestry and attending several Sunday School programs. He was a member of Piping and Marching Society.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Robertson Johnson; five children: Edward Norvell Johnson, Jr. (Julia) of Charleston, SC, Elizabeth Lewis Johnson Dixon (Roger) of Charleston, SC, Adelaide Johnson Herring (Oren) of McClellanville, Anne Johnson Bailey of Charleston, SC, and Margaret Galloway Paulling of Charleston, SC; and several grandchildren.
