Edward Peddleford Holcombe, III, 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Shirley Johnson Holcombe entered into eternal rest Friday, October 19, 2018. A private crypt side service will be held. The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Edward was born August 3, 1923 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Edward P. Holcombe, Jr.and Sue Chaplin Holcombe. He attended Porter Military Academy and graduated from Charleston High School. He worked as a photographer until World War II when he joined the US Navy. He married Shirley Johnson in 1943 and had a long life together (73 years) until she passed away in December, 2016. During WWII, he served as a naval aerial photographer for Riley of Charleston and for the Post & Courier of Charleston. He later joined the family insurance and real estate business and formed the Holcombe & Jenkins Insurance Agency. Ed was an avid sailor and yachtsman. He had a passion for the sea and was a past member of the Carolina Yacht Club. He was a Life Member of the Hibernian Society. Ed was a faithful member of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston where he served as an Elder as well as a member of the Gideons.
Ed is survived by his three children, Sharon H. (Ralph) Rogers of Charleston, SC, Edward "Ned" P. (Carolyn) Holcombe,V of Powder Springs, GA, Nancy H. (Steven) Falciani of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of seventy three years, Shirley Johnson Holcombe, his brother James Hagood Holcombe, granddaughters, Ashley Holcombe and Tara Rogers Bright and grandson, Scott Rogers.
