Edward Percy “Ted” Guerard, Jr. died on Sunday, August 23, at Mt. Pleasant Gardens where he resided for the past year and was well loved by his amazing caregivers. The family will receive friends for a reception at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 28, 2026, prior to a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 pm at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will gather for a private inurnment at the Christ Church Columbarium following the service, where he will rest in eternal peace.

Ted was born in Atlanta, GA, on January 9, 1943, to Edward Percy Guerard and Ruth Ann Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Harriet Ann “Nancy” Conway (Mark). Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marion Thomas “Betty” Guerard and his two sons, Edward “Ted” Guerard (Robin) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Thomas Guerard (Alison) of Fairburn, GA. He is adored by his four grandchildren: Zachary “Zach” Halewood (Kaleigh) of Charlotte, NC; Mary Guerard of Fort Mill, SC; Turner Guerard of Colorado Springs, CO; and Parker Guerard of Fairburn, GA; and he is remembered as a faithful “big brother” to his siblings and sisters-in law: Henry Guerard (Marsha) of Bend, OR; The Reverend William Guerard (Donna) of Zebulon, NC; and Caroline Barnhill of Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Ted graduated from Winyah High School in Georgetown in 1961 and earned a full scholarship to North Carolina State University, graduating with a degree in Pulp and Paper Technology. He continued his studies with the devoted support of his new bride at the University of South Carolina, earning his J.D. and MBA over the course of four years. While there, Ted served as Leading Articles Editor of the Law Review and taught Legal Bibliography.

In 1965, Ted began his more than four decades practicing law in Charleston, a profession he genuinely loved and that afforded him many lasting friendships. He stayed very busy with his career, also serving as President of the Charleston Metro Exchange Club and as Legal Counsel for the City of Isle of Palms, helping establish the Beach and Racquet Club, the predecessor to Wild Dunes.

Ted raised his family on the Isle of Palms and deeply cherished time with his children, grandchildren, and his extended “Island Family.” He loved being on the water, bird watching, and being outside in the yard, which he took great pride in tending and keeping pristine. He was an active member of Christ Church Anglican, serving as a Vestry member and on the Finance Committee. He especially treasured special times with his Life Group and the men of the church. He faithfully watched and cheered for his NC State Wolfpack, and despite yelling exuberantly for them (and firmly against their opponents), was gentle, kind and polite to all he encountered even to the end of his life.
