Edward FitzSimons Good, M.D. was born in Columbia, South Carolina, a son of the late Hilliard Good and Mabel Trott FitzSimons Good, on August 28, 1938. Dr. Good was a graduate of Charleston High School where he was president of the student body, Washington and Lee University where he was a member of Si��gma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and the Medical College of South Carolina where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AOA). During his senior year of medical school, he participated in an externship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard. After his medical internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he honorably served as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy for three years prior to finishing his residency training in Neurology at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Good had a private practice in neurology in Houston for over forty years, while also serving on the Astronaut Selection Team for NASA Johnson Space Center for approximately thirty years. Upon retiring, he returned to Charleston, the city he loved. Dr. Good was a member of the American College of Neurology, the Society of the Cincinnati of S.C., the Harris County Medical Society and the Carolina Yacht Club. Remembered by his friends and family as a true southern gentleman, he was known to be kind, thoughtful, honest and ethical. He loved traveling, the arts, classical music, Luciano Pavarotti, peaches, chocolate, tennis, flying and the color blue. Dr. Good is predeceased by his brother, Hilliard Good, Jr. He is survived by his daughters: Gayle Sampson of Xenia, OH; Anne Watts of Houston, TX and Alicia Good of Los Angeles, CA; his grandson, Blake Edward Watts of Houston, TX and his niece, Caroline Good of Fayetteville, OH.His children would like to express special thanks to Dr. James Gendron Gibbs, Dr. Good's lifelong friend, for his positive spirit, friendship and tireless dedication to helping their father during his battle with pancreatic cancer. Friends and family are invited to a graveside service, Friday, April 16, 2021 at 12 o'clock noon at Saint Philip's Churchyard. Following the service, there will be a celebration of Dr. Good's life at his home on James Island.
