Edward Louis Conte

February 25, 1916 — June 16, 2012

Edward Louis Conte, 96, husband of Stella Concetta Caputo Conte, of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012. The relatives and friends of Edward Conte are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC at 10:30 am. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.

Ed was born on February 25, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY, son of Luigi and Dusolina Zangheratti Guidorizzi. One of six children, Ed was active in sports as a youth, and continued his love for baseball as a coach in Hicksville, Long Island, NY. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II, and retired with 30 years of service from Republic Aviation (now known as Fairchild Corporation) as a bench mechanic, inspector and final assembly technician. He was a member of the Long Island Fly Rodders, an organization he founded thirty years ago. He enjoyed painting and shared his work with friends and family. Formerly a member of the Holy Family Parish in Hicksville, Long Island, NY, Ed was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, and a resident at Somerby of Mt. Pleasant for the past 2 ½ years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; his sons, Steve Conte of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jeffrey Conte of Decatur, GA, and Daniel Conte (Dorothy) of Orland, ME; his daughter-in-law Arlene Conte; seven grandchildren, Matthew Conte of Charleston, and Elizabeth Conte of Seattle, WA, Peter Conte, Justine Conte, Paul Conte, Martin Conte, and Edward Conte, all of Maine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorials be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466, or to a charity of one's choice.
