Edward Leroy Allen, Jr., 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, died Saturday, September 5, 2015.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, September 7, 2015, in Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Avenue. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Edward was born August 17, 1940, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Edward Leroy Allen, Sr., and the late Frances Owens. He was a retired welder and enjoyed fishing and photography. He was a member of the Charleston Barbell Club, weightlifting champion and won the Most Muscular Man in the Carolinas in 1964 and 1965. He was an arm wrestling champion and won the Most Outstanding Arm Wrestler in 1986 by the Southeastern Monster Arm Wrestling Association.
He is survived by three daughters, Toni Lynn Allen, Lisa Ann Allen, Gina Christine Thompson; three sons, Edward Leroy Allen, III, Chad Allen, and Robert Clifford Thompson; sister, Brenda Garrett; brother, William E. Allen; two grandchildren, Scotty Morgan and Samantha Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Shawn Harmening, Hanah Harmening, Jacob Harmening and Caleb Harmening; niece, Kim Henrikson, and nephew, Jack O. Garrett.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timmy Wyane Allen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Center of Charleston, 376 Wando Park Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
