Edna Sanderlin Melton

Edna Waller Sanderlin Melton, 98, of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Sweetgrass Village Senior Living Community.  The relatives and friends of Edna Melton are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, February 3, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 1:00 pm until time of the service.  Mrs. Melton was born on September 1, 1912 in Argo, (near Mt. Pleasant), Texas, daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude Redden Waller.  She lived on the Isle of Palms for 36 years (1952-1988) and was very active in her community.  She was a charter member of the Isle of Palms Baptist Church where she attended faithfully for 46 years.  She was an active member of the Isle of Palms Garden Club - winning many awards and ribbons for her beautiful flowers, the Exchangettes, the Playground Committee and was a Cub Scout den mother.  Upon moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1988, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and East Cooper Hospital.  Edna enjoyed sewing, having won 9^th in the National Singer Sewing Contest in 1957, knitting, crocheting, tatting, exercising, walking and had a great love of music.  For 15 years she also attended water aerobics at the Mt. Pleasant Recreational Center.  In July 2004, she moved to Oakdale Heights Assisted Living, now Sweetgrass Village Senior Living Community at 601 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC.  She spent many hours participating and enjoying the activities, especially Chicken Foot Dominoes and Bingo.  A special thank you to the staff and friends at Sweetgrass Village for the love and care they have shown her during her residency there.  Also, thank you to Sharon Tillett, her Hospice Nurse with Southern Care and their staff.  She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sanderlin McKenzie of Mt. Pleasant, her grandchildren, Shawn Sullivan (Mike) of Mt. Pleasant, Dawn Raymond (Kevin) of Louisville, KY, Terry McKenzie (Teresa) of Isle of Palms, Chad McKenzie of Mt. Pleasant; and her great grandchildren, Anne Sullivan of Spartanburg, SC, Beth Sullivan of Mt. Pleasant, Katie S. Wilks (Pete) of Louisville, KY, Jessica Smith of Louisville, KY, Kyle and Walker McKenzie, Isle of Palms.  She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Sanderlin (1949), her husband, F.C. Melton (1965) and her beloved son, Jimmy Sanderlin.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to the Isle of Palms Baptist Church, P.O.
