Edna Armstrong Johnson

Edna Armstong Johnson, 82, of West Columbia, South Carolina, wife of Scott Bradley Johnson entered into eternal rest Friday, May 23, 2025. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Edna was born January 28, 1943, in Nashville, Tennessee, daughter of the late Edward Ray Armstrong and the late Elise Ferguson Armstrong Yungk. Mrs. Johnson graduated from the State University of New York in 1979 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. She then went to the University of South Carolina and graduated with a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1987. Mrs. Edna had a passion for volunteering and for aiding others. She started her career as a Social Worker in Charleston Memorial Hospital (1981-1984) and then was a part of the Milestone Program at the SC Department of Mental Health (1988-1996). From 1996, until she retired in 1998, she was the Service Coordinator for the Dept. of Outreach Services, SC School for the Deaf and Blind where she would give families encouragement and guidance.

She continued to pursue her passion from 2000-2008, where she was a volunteer at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. She worked in several departments including Home Based Primary Care and chaired/co-chaired weekly support groups in Blind Rehabilitation Center. She was later elected Volunteer of the Year in 2003. Mrs. Edna volunteered for twenty years at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC.

Mrs. Johnson gave a lot of herself and her abilities. Some of her other accomplishments were; She was provided over 2,500 hours of volunteer service to newly blind veterans at the VA in Augusta, GA and the VA in Columbia, South Carolina, had articles published in State Periodical, was a representative of the Joint Advisory Council for Independent Living Services (1988-1994), and was a Chairperson of the Rehabilitation Committee for Partners of the Americas (1993-1997).

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children: Lisa Germanoff of Summerville, SC, Tani Cuthrell (Steve) of Callahan, FL, Wendy Tipps of Goose Creek, SC, Sarah Wincek of Minneapolis, MN, and Carye Bye of Pittsburgh, PA; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; siblings: Gayle Edenfield (Bill) of Charleston, SC and Robert Yungk. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Leah Robbins Hastings.
