Edmond "Ed" Dwight Jones, 67, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Rita "Becky" Rebecca Temple Jones entered into eternal rest Tuesday, April 16, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 in the Seacoast Church - Mt. Pleasant, 750 Long Point Rd. at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends in Seacoast Church - Mt. Pleasant an hour before the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Edmond was born July 13, 1956 in York County, South Carolina, son of the late Oscar Hawkins Jones and the late Florrie Miller Jones. A graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the marching band, and Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity, "Big Ed" Jones competed as a professional wrestler for many years. Under the name Major DeBeers, Big Ed held the SCW Title, the SCW Brass Knuckles title and the NC Championship. He later wrestled as The Assassin, The Inferno, The Superstar Destroyer and many others. An advocate for giving back to the community, Ed was a member and leader in the SC Jaycees, having the following positions and accolades: Clover President (2001), State Administration Vice President, JCI Senate President, Palmetto Corp Colonel #458, Ambassador #4362, Senator #63705, Triple Crown #148, and US Jaycee National Speak Up Champion. Ed will be remembered for his larger than life personality and the way he loved his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; son, Bradford Jones of Gastonia, NC; three stepchildren, Lesa Livingston Mackie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Ashley Fazio of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Seamus Grady of Austin, TX; and three grandchildren, Layla Blue, Vaughn Blue, and Grady Mackie.
