Edith Bikle Gregg, 94, a native of Charleston South Carolina, slipped into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 20, 2021. Edie was born on February 28, 1927, the daughter of Louis Albert Bikle and Mary Poppenheim Bikle. She was the proud wife and widow of Walter Boyd Gregg, who preceded her in death.
Edie graduated from Ashley Hall and Converse College, and began her career teaching in Charleston at Chicora High. There she met the love of her life, Boyd, and they shared over 50 years of marriage. She retired from Middleton High School but remained a teacher every day of her life.
Edie loved life, and she loved her life. Through her teaching career and her life in church and community she made many cherished friends who became like family, including many of her former students.
She is survived by her son, Walter Boyd Gregg,Jr. (Paula) of Charleston, and her daughter, Mary Gregg Horne (Benje) of Greenville; six grandchildren: Boyd Gregg (Paige), Will Gregg (Alicia), Stephen Gregg (Lauren), Gregg Horne (Misty), Ben Horne (Stephanie) and Maury Kilgo (John) and ten great-grandchildren: Walt Gregg, Emmie Gregg, Henry Gregg, Edie Gregg, Walt Horne, Isabelle Horne, Evan Horne, Jack Kilgo, Kate Kilgo and Benje Kilgo.
Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021, in Bethel Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc, Downtown Chapel.
