Edith "Edie" Mitchell Blair

May 18, 1958 — July 14, 2018

Edith Mitchell Blair, 60, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at her Mount Pleasant home on July 14, 2018, after a courageous l l-year battle with brain cancer. Her Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth Street at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR. INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL 1494 Mathis Ferry Road on Wednesday from
5:00 until 7:00 pm.

Edie was born May 18, 1958, to John Magill Mitchell and Edith LaBruce Mitchell of Mount Pleasant. She and her two sisters were blessed with a picture-perfect childhood in Mount Pleasant's Old Village, where their lives revolved around the water and time spent with family, neighbors and friends. She graduated from Ashley Hall in 1976 and from Hollins College in 1980. After graduation, she worked as a physician's assistant before becoming a pharmaceutical sales
representative, and she worked as a real estate agent as well. But she found her true calling and her God-given purpose as a wife and mother when she married Andrew King Blair in 1985, and they were blessed with a son, Andrew, in 1988 and a daughter, Mary Magill, in 1991. Edie's kids were the apple of her eye, and her family and faith were her world. For her husband and children and for everyone she knew, she was a confidante when you wanted one, a straight
talker when you needed one, and a shoulder to cry on when life hurt. Whether you were sharing a small victory or a monumental joy, no one was more ready to celebrate with you than Edie was. Edie always made her home the best, most fun place to spend time, whether you were a kid or an adult. She was an outstanding cook and a warm, easygoing hostess who made entertaining look effortless. She welcomed everyone. Today her family, through their tears, takes great comfort in knowing that just as she opened her heart and her life to welcome and love others, God has opened his heart and welcomed her to eternal life with him and with those she loved and now has joined in God's heavenly home.

Edie is survived by her husband of 32 years, Andrew, of Mount Pleasant; her son, Andrew King Blair Jr. of Mount Pleasant; her daughter, Mary Magill Blair Armstrong (Cole) of Awendaw; and her sister, Ann Mitchell Thrash (Bill) of Summerton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Edith Mitchell; her sister, Elizabeth; and her aunt, Jean Mitchell. Her family is deeply grateful to the many friends who have shared Edie's battle, with special thanks to Joy Morris,
Susan Nickles, Carol McGrath, Geraldine Jameson and Kathy Young for the love and care they showed to Edie in recent weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edie's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
