Edith Dukes Cauthen DuPuis, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of William Jackson Cauthen and Clarence F. DuPuis, entered into eternal rest Friday, October 4, 2013. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013, in Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, 2105 Cosgrove Avenue, at 2:00 pm. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
Edith was born March 27, 1920, in Rowesville, SC, daughter of Thomas Martin Dukes and Betha Clark Higginbotham Dukes. She was a retired seamstress with Sears, Roebuck and Company. Edith was a very active member of Cherokee Place United Methodist Church since joining in 1947 and was responsible for choosing the stained glass window behind the pulpit. She was a member of the James Island Wheelers and she loved square dancing from 1980 until 2012.
She is survived by her children: Juanita C. Childers (Larry) of Mauldin, SC, Jacqueline C. Bennett of Dublin, GA, Nancy C. Willetts of Camden, SC, Margaret Jane Cauthen of Hanahan, SC, Edith Carolyn Auvil (Alan) of Taylors, SC, Joy C. Cordray (John) of Charleston, SC, Jerald Dukes Cauthen (Lisa) of Charleston, SC, and Robert ""Pete" Cauthen ( Sharon); step daughter, Michele DuPuis Bouchard (Rickey) of Augusta, GA; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. Edith was preceded in death by a son, Thomas William Cauthen; three grandchildren: Lisa Childers Reed Blanchard, Wayne and Dawn Childers; and all of her siblings.
