Edgar Ellis Brunson III, affectionately known as Ellis, was born on September 15, 1964, in Charleston, South Carolina. He entered the presence of his Lord on September 3, 2026, at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House.

Ellis was the son of the late E. Ellis Brunson, Jr. and Linda Gruber Brunson. He graduated from Middleton High School and was a member of Northwood Baptist Church at Wando Woods.

Ellis was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Renee Brunson, and by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Lori Powers (Tony); his nephew, Thomas J. Ayre (Emily); his niece, Kelsey L. Slaton; his great-nephew, Hunter; his great-niece, Memphis; his sisters-in-law, Denise Tompkins and Celeste Cockcroft (Wade); his niece, Morgan Cockcroft (Ben); and his nephew, Kevin Cockcroft.

Ellis recently discovered a passion for motorcycles and loved the freedom of the open road. Becoming a member of the local Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) chapter was one of the many ways he embraced this new adventure. He was also an avid firearm collector, enjoyed fishing whenever he had the opportunity, and had a special place in his heart for his beloved cats. Those who knew him best knew he inherited his father's stubbornness and his mother's generosity-almost to a fault. His favorite saying, "It is what it is," became a phrase his family and friends heard often and will forever remember with a smile.

One of the greatest blessings in Ellis's life came in his final days. Surrounded by family, close friends, and the men who walked beside him on his journey of faith, Ellis rededicated his life to Jesus Christ in his room at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House. It was a beautiful reminder that God's grace is never out of reach and that no one is beyond His redeeming love.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 11, 2026 at Northwood Baptist Church at Wando Woods, 4123 Dorsey Ave, North Charleston

at 11:00 am, followed by a burial at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd, Mount Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston. The family chose this organization because of its mission of providing comfort, care, and support to families during some of life's most difficult moments.
