Born on June 12th, 1932, Earlene grew up in Newton, North Carolina. She was the seventh of eight siblings, and her childhood was filled with music and farm work. Her exuberance for other people earned her the title of Homecoming Queen at Balls Creek School, where she was also class salutatorian. At age twenty Earlene met John-or Johnny, as she so affectionately called him. Their whirlwind romance turned into sixty-four years of marriage.
Earlene supported John throughout seminary and thrived in her role as a pastor's wife at Bethany Lutheran Church in Groveton, VA, Grace Lutheran Church in Summerville, SC, and Island Lutheran Church in Hilton Head Island, SC. Her nurturing skills were evident not only in these congregations, but also in the three children she raised. Earlene's time on this earth was well-marked by her love. For Christ, for Johnny, for her family, for everyone she met. Earlene never knew a stranger. One of her favorite activities was chewing the rag, hosting lively conversations at the kitchen table. Her ability to talk to anyone about anything made her a firecracker of friendliness.
She is mourned by family: her husband John Graudin, her children Steven (Tracy), Kevin (Theresa) and Julie, her sisters Rosie (Joe) Bolick of Newton, NC and Annie Belle (Richard) Vanzant of Florida, her brother Earle (Wilma) Moose of Newton, NC,and her grandchildren Ryan, Jacob, Emily, Lindsey, Adam, Riley, Alex and Ellie.
We await the hope of the resurrection. Soli Deo Gloria.
