E. Garner Wiggins of Mt. Pleasant died on Friday, July 15, 2011 as a result of complications from a stroke.
Garner was born on May 25, 1933 at Andalusia, Alabama to the late Admiral Dewey Wiggins and Thelma Glisson Wiggins. Upon Graduation from Straughn High School, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina to serve in the Army during the Korean War. Afterwards, he attended the University of South Carolina, majoring in Accounting. He worked as an Accountant for the Federal Government and later practiced as an independent CPA at Charleston, SC. He was an avid Gamecock fan and enjoyed attending football games at the Elk's Lodge with friends, loved oyster roasts there and as a member of the Elk's Lodge, he volunteered his services to help raise money for Alzheimer's Association, Camp for underprivileged children, Veteran's and Family Circle Cup. He was a past member and officer of the downtown Exchange Club, the Sertoma Club and worked with the annual Sertoma Classic.
He was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a Christian and a proud member of Ashley River Baptist Church, a former choir member and served on the Finance Committee. He has been married 54 years to his wife, the former Mary West Brewer, also survived by two children, Beverly Anita Wiggins Pearce and her husband, Stuart Pearce and Michael Garner Wiggins and his wife, Kimber McDonald Wiggins; seven grandchildren, are Austin Brewer Pearce, Mary Michelle Pearce, Jackson Dean Pearce, Michael Davis Wiggins, Jaclyn Leigh Wiggins, Joseph Garner Wiggins and Max McDonald Wiggins, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He is survived by two sisters, Wilma Short Moore of Andalusia, Alabama and Marjia DeBray of Troy, Alabama and his mother-in-law, Eutha "Granny" Brewer of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Horace Wiggins and Donald Wiggins.
The relatives and friends of Garner Wiggins are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Sunday, July 17, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Mt. Pleasant Chapel from 1:30 until time of the service.
