Dwane Russell Houser, 79, of the Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at his home on the Isle of Palms, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Struck Houser, and their four children, Kelly Fort (Dale), Lori Buttermore (Tom), Jeffrey Houser (Staci) and Melanie Scofield (Todd). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, and his sister, Joyce Schuchardt, of St. Charles, Missouri. Three of his children live nearby in Charleston, South Carolina and one lives in the USVI.
He was born in Highland, Illinois on January 17, 1935. Dwane graduated from Illinois State Normal University with a degree in Music Education. His lifetime insurance career began with State Farm Life (Bloomington, IL) which then led him to an accomplished career with Community Mutual Life (Worthington, OH). Dwane completed his career, retiring in 1996, with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Cincinnati, OH), where he served as Chairman of the Board. While in Cincinnati, he was active in community affairs, serving on the Cincinnati Symphony Board, Chairman of a successful campaign for the United Way, and on the Board for Mount St. Joseph College. He was also a Mason and Shriner.
Dwane and Nancy have enjoyed their retirement years on the Isle of Palms, South Carolina. He particularly enjoyed his leisure time playing golf, spending time with friends and family, and attending his grandchildren's sports and music events. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals football team, and was a lifetime fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
He was respected as an honest and ethical man both in business and in his personal life. His children are so thankful and fortunate to have had such a wonderful and caring father.
