Dr. William L. McDonald

Dr. William L. McDonald, 90, of Mauldin, SC and recently of Mt. Pleasant, SC, stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, June 7, 2023. A memorial service for Dr. McDonald's life and ministry will be held at the church that Dr. McDonald founded and established in 1975, The Cathedral Community Church in Mauldin, SC, on Sunday, June 11, 2023. The family will receive friends at the church at 2:00 pm and the service will be held at 3:00 pm, and officiated by Wayne Brown. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Dr. McDonald was born May 27, 1933 in Laurens, South Carolina, the son of the late Thomas J. McDonald and the late Bessie Irene Burns McDonald. He served faithfully as a minister and pastor to several Methodist churches in Spartanburg, SC, Simpsonville, SC and for 46 years at the Cathedral Community Church in Mauldin, SC. 

He is survived by his two daughters, Janet M. Cofield (Tommy) of Lexington, SC, and Joy M. Franklin (the late Ron Franklin) of Mt. Pleasant. Dr. McDonald was blessed with 4 grandchildren, T. J. Cofield of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Caitlin Cofield Radecki (Tyler) of Nashville, TN, Summer Franklin Arnold (Garrett) and Ron Franklin III, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and one great-grandchild, John Arnold. He has two surviving sisters, Polly M. Moss and Ann M. Beatty of Spartanburg, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, the late Betty "Joyce" McDonald, and dear son-in-law, Ron Franklin, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home Healing Center fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,
