Dr. Sara “Sallie” Elizabeth Daley Schuh of Charleston, SC, passed away at age 87, surrounded by the loving care of her children, and husband Dr. Fredric Schuh.
Dr. Schuh’s impact on the community has been felt through her pioneering work in the care of abused and neglected children. She was instrumental in founding the Dee Norton Low Country Children’s Center, bringing legal and medical care to abused children. She trained generations of doctors to care for children as a professor of pediatrics at MUSC from 1969 to 2017, retiring at age 82.
She was the daughter of Mr. Cecil and Dr. Elizabeth Roylance Daley of Bronxville, NY. She was a graduate of Vassar College, and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Columbia University School of Public Health.
In the midst of her busy work life, she raised 5 children who gave her 10 grandchildren, who were a tremendous joy to her.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Fredric DeGraw Schuh, and her children Dr. Jonathan Schuh (Jenna), Dr. Alex Schuh (Sara), Dr. Kate Schuh White (Jay), Mr. Daniel Schuh, and Mrs. Liz Schuh Tuncer, (Onur), and her 10 grandchildren.
Also she is preceded by her siblings: Mr. Daniel Daley, Mr. Peter Daley, Mr. Richard Daley, and Mrs. Mary Daley Silleck.
A memorial service is going to be held at the Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting St., Charleston, SC at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 10. There will be a visitation following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made as donations to the foster family support group, of which she was a board member: HALOS of Charleston <https://www.charlestonhalos.org/> and her church: Second Presbyterian Church. <https://www.2ndpc.org/>.
