Douglas Monroe Wells, Sr. (Damianos) was returned to God on August 28, 2025. Doug was born in Columbia, SC on January 26, 1955 to Harold P. Wells (Retired Col. and Chaplin) and Bettye Monteith Wells, both deceased. He was the middle of three sons. His surviving brothers Phil Wells (Connie) of Charleston, SC and Monty Wells (Gail) of Bel Air, Maryland.
On May 13, 1989, he was married to Karen Elizabeth Melonas (Columbia, SC) in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, of which he later decided to become a member. They were blessed with two children, whom he loved very much; Douglas M. Wells, Jr. and Hali Elizabeth Wells, both living in Charleston.
A commanding figure and natural born leader, Doug wore many hats. He started out in men’s retail clothing and then began a career in advertising as co-owner of Wells Ruddle Advertising. From his many Real Estate clients in The Low Country, he became interested in land development. Moving to Charleston in 2000, he established Coastal Development Solutions and later was co-owner of a Real Estate Company in Mt. Pleasant. He was a Sous Chef and co-owner of The Last Catch in Columbia and Arizona’s in Charleston. For many years, with his team, cooked and grilled the meats for The Greek Festivals in Columbia and Charleston. He was a devoted member of AHEPA, rising to Columbia Chapter Vice President and Charleston Chapter President. Doug was a boat captain and loved deep sea fishing and hunting. Whenever asked, he always stepped up to raise funds for local charities. A lifetime of achievements and awards are too many to list.
Doug is also survived by many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews in Lexington, SC and from Maryland, and many friends he cared for deeply.
While blessed to have you with us, you were loved to the depth of our hearts.
You are loved still and your memory will be eternal +
