Douglas Richard Stevens

Douglas Richard Stevens, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 11, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with laryngeal cancer. He is survived by his wife and partner of 35 years, Susan (Sue) Marie Stevens; son, Douglas R. Stevens, Jr. of Columbia, MD, daughter, Jeannie M. Finnegan (Dave Cooke) of Sykesville, MD; and son, David M. Stevens (Cher) of Reedville, VA; sister, Shirley Geise (Richard) of Newfane, NY; sister-in-law, Marilyn Stevens of Newfane, NY, and many beloved grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 10, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. His Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

Douglas was born September 10, 1940 in Lockport, New York, son of the late Howard Luke Stevens and Gertrude Smith Stevens. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, served at Marine Barracks (Building 58), 8th and I Streets, SE, Washington, DC, was a member of the USMC Silent Drill Platoon, and served at The White House and Camp David. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Doug worked at Naval Sea Systems Command, Submarine Directorate. In 1981, he moved to Charleston to become an employee of Life Cycle Engineering. He later became a partner in LCE and was the Executive Vice President of Business Development. Doug was a member of The Country Club of Charleston, a member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and volunteered with Tricounty Family Ministries. With his smile and sense of humor, he brought his love for people to every situation. His shared his enjoyment of being on the water and his passion for playing golf with many family members and friends.

Special thanks to all the caregivers who supported our family, especially Lottie Brown, the staff of Savannah Grace at the Palms of Mt. Pleasant, and the staff of Agape Hospice who filled Doug's journey with joy, peace and grace.
