Douglas Lee Schaffer, 66, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of Rebecca S. Schaffer entered into eternal rest Friday, October 13, 2023. His Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023, in the St. John's Episcopal Church, 3673 Maybank Highway, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Canon Calhoun "Callie" Walpole, Vicar. Burial will follow in the churchyard. A light reception will follow in Walton Hall. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

Douglas was born March 27, 1957 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Elizabeth Ann Glover and the late Frederick Long Schaffer Jr. Mr. Schaffer came from a long line of farmers on John's Island and loved looking out over the beautiful crop of tomatoes eagerly waiting to bring them to the market. A special time of the day was dinner at his mother's table discussing the farm. The perfect day for him was fishing for trout with Becky on the Bohicket River.

Mr. Schaffer attended Trident Technical College to study Horticulture. He was also an active member of the St. John's Episcopal Church, John's Island.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Anna Rebecca Schleppegrell Schaffer; his mother, Elizabeth Ann Glover Schaffer; his brother, James Frederick Schaffer, Sr. (Betty); his sisters, Susan Schaffer Davis (John) and Melissa Ann Schaffer; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews whom he adored.

Flowers will be accepted, and memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 4975 Lacross Rd., Suit 200A, North Charleston, SC 29406
