Douglas Cam Rhodes, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle entered his eternal home on January 13, 2026 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his three children, Holly, Weston (Holly), and Keely; two grandsons, Forrest and Chayton; sister, Margaret Sparlin; brother, Robert Rhodes, and other nieces and nephews.

Born in Locust Grove, Oklahoma on July 17, 1943, Doug grew up in Miami, Oklahoma, the youngest of four siblings. He was gifted as a student and athlete, and was student body president at Miami High School his senior year. But, perhaps the greatest gift of his early years was meeting Judy, the love of his life, who became his high school sweetheart and his wife of 62 years.

Doug attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and went on to the University of Kansas, where he earned Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degrees focusing on mathematics, and specializing in computer science and remote sensing, pioneering fields at the time. He served as an ROTC cadet throughout college. When Doug served in the United States Air Force, he developed simulations and program forecasting applications for missile systems by using his cutting-edge skills and mathematical gifts. Later, he served as a professor at the US Air Force Academy.

Doug pursued a doctorate at Penn State University, completing ABD, as demand for his unique skillset led to increasing work in the private sector. These opportunities took Doug and his growing family to the Washington, DC area in 1974. In 1976, Doug founded CEXEC, Inc, a government services company, headquartered in Northern Virginia. He served as its owner and chairman of the board for the next 50 years.

By any measure, Doug was a successful business leader, and he was also a man of deep Christian faith. He served in many different leadership roles at his longtime church home, Vienna Presbyterian Church, and made a positive impact with youth of the church. He not only helped them to grow in faith, he also led them on mission trips, taught many to snow and water ski for the first time, and offered opportunities for work experience at CEXEC. Doug also served the Vienna community for many years coaching Little League baseball and supporting youth football, teaching the importance of fundamentals of the game.

He was called into mission work throughout his life. For years, he led missions to Cherokee, North Carolina. Later, he participated in mission trips to Mexico. One ministry that brought him particular joy was the eyeglasses ministry in Mexico. He continued this important work well into his 70s, even when it was physically challenging. Bringing the joy of sight to so many, who never had the opportunity to receive corrective lenses, were some of his favorite memories. Even outside of the church, Doug found many ways to help others when he could.

Doug was a tribal member and active citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. His native American roots stem from ancestors who played significant roles in Cherokee history and tribal government.

Among his family and friends, Doug was known as a storyteller with an uncanny knack for details, a good-natured teaser, a math whiz, a generous giver but also consummate deal maker, a snow skier, a golf lover, an avid traveler, a sports fan (with a special love for the KU Jayhawks), an expert trout fisherman, and a nature-lover, particularly for the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where he felt at home. Doug was especially proud of his family.

A memorial service will be held on January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Aiken, SC, and on February 7, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Vienna Presbyterian Church in Vienna, VA. Receptions will follow at the respective church after each service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your charity of choice in memory of Doug’s service to others.

Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
