Doug Miller, 62, of Goose Creek, SC, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doug was born March 17, 1952 in Patterson, New Jersey, son of the late William R. Miller and the late Charlotte Traub Miller. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 39 years, Marian, and cherished daughter Casey. He is also survived by his three brothers, Randy and Belinda Miller of Westminster, CO, Lance and Dottie Miller of Hamilton, NJ and Mike and Betsy Miller of Lacanto, FL; four nephews, Scott and Alicia Miller and their daughter, Ava, Greg and Seneca Miller, Kyle Miller and Kevin and Dana Miller; in-law relatives, Jack Miller, Janice and Dave Akins, Jerry Miller and Jim Miller; and nephew and nieces, Bret, Whitney and Gayla.
Doug was a teacher and coach for 39 years before retiring in 2013. He knew very early he wanted to be a coach and loved that it allowed him to work with dedicated and talented people in his field. He had an impact on countless students and athletes over the years and enjoyed running into former players and catching up on how they were doing. He genuinely cared about them and they knew it.
Marian and Casey would like to thank their wonderful friends and neighbors for their encouragement and support through this difficult time. They are very grateful. Per Doug's wishes, he will be cremated and the scattering of his ashes will be private.
The family requests any memorial donations be made in Doug's name to the Special Olympics of South Carolina, 1276 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or a charity of your choice.
