Douglas Kirby Hurd, (Doug), 93, died peacefully on March 23, 2024, surrounded by his wife of 68 years, Lee Withers Hurd, and daughters, Jane Hurd Cahane (Roland) of High Wycombe, England and Betsey Hurd (Sid Erickson) of Helena, MT. Jane was present via zoom.

His funeral will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 3673 Maybank Hwy., Johns Island on April 5, at 1:00 pm.

Doug was preceded in death by his father Douglas Rufus Hurd and mother Edith Burch Hurd Hundley. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia and enlisted in the Coast Guard at 17. He graduated with a BA in Business from the Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU) where he met his future wife. He began his career as an accountant, until he discovered computers. He retired in 1988 as a computer systems analyst with the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. 

Doug and Lee retired to Seabrook Island, SC where Doug enjoyed biking around the island daily, swimming laps and walking on the beach with Lee and his beloved Cooper, the first of 3 basset hounds. Doug was an active member of Church of Our Savior and the Kiawah - Seabrook Exchange Club. Together with Lee, they created the Seabrook Lakes Yacht Club, now celebrating its 30th year. 

Burial will be private at Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.
