Dorothy Wilhelmina Hopke Wood, 98, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Robert "Buster" Murray Wood died Sunday, October 2, 2016. Her Funeral Service has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Dorothy was born in Charleston, South Carolina on October 29th, 1917, the daughter of Harry Fredrick Hopke and Julia Bee Hopke. She was united in marriage to Robert Buster Murray Wood, Sr. on June 26th, 1938 at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension, in Savannah Georgia. Dorothy was a long time member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Avondale Road in West Ashley. For the past three years she has been a resident of The Palms Retirement Home in Mount Pleasant. Prior to her residence at The Palms, Dorothy lived for over 50 years on Yeamans Road in The Crescent. Buster preceded her in death on April 6th, 1980.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her loving children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Robert Murray Wood, Jr. married to Diann Marie Seel Wood and her daughter, Linda Mae Wood Morris married to Ted Michael Morris; both families of Charleston, South Carolina. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Christine Lynn Morris Wilson married to David Wade Wilson with their children Megan Christine Wilson and Rylie Elana Wilson of Hilton Head, South Carolina; David Michael Morris married to Melissa Maguire Morris and their daughter Alexandria Elaine Maguire and her son James Alfred Lindsey, sons Robert Ashley Maguire, and Myles Michael Morris; Robert Whilden Wood married to Jennifer Darlynn Wooten Wood and their children Piper Dina Wood and Whilden Lane Wood; Dorothy Michelle Wood; Diana Marie Wood; and Julia Miriam Wood Bryant married to Russell Andrew Bryant and their children Luke Murray Bryant and Thomas Andrew Bryant of Charleston, South Carolina.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Harry Bubba Fredrick Hopke, Jr., Louise Hopke Lee, Dr. Ernest Rudolph Hopke, and Alvina Allie Hopke Cook.
