Dorothy "Jane" Sharkey

Dorothy "Jane" Mazzola Sharkey, 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of James A. Sharkey, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Ft. Johnson Road, James Island. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.

Jane was born August 1, 1922 in Spring Lake, New Jersey, daughter of the late Roy Mazzola and Eleanor Davis Mazzola. She was a graduate of Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City and attended New York University. After staying home with her four children she began working in the Nursing Department at MUSC. In retirement she spent her time volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was also a member for 47 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Sharkey (John Boyle) of Mount Pleasant, SC; three sons, Jim "Casey" Sharkey (Nancy) of Greer, SC, John "Jack" Sharkey (Carole) of Los Angeles, CA, Peter Sharkey of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Roy, John, and Philip.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ashley Park, Tender Touches, and Roper Hospice for their love and care.
