Dorothy Harriet Schuermann (Dot), née Lynch, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, at the age of 101. Born to Henry and Dorothy Lynch on October 11, 1922, Dot spent her early years in Wilmington, Delaware, alongside her siblings Edward, Sara, and Henry Jr.
Dot graduated from DuPont High School and attended a year of business school before beginning her career in banking at Security Trust in Wilmington. In 1945, she married the love of her life, Franklin Valentine Schuermann, whom she met at a USO dance. Together, they built a beautiful family with their two sons. The couple moved to New Jersey, where Dot became an integral part of the Methodist Church community in Demarest. She served faithfully as a communion steward for over two decades and was president of the women's group for a year. After spending some time as a homemaker, Dot worked for Prentice Hall Book Publishing while her sons bravely served in the Army.
After retiring, Dot and her husband moved to Forked River, where they enjoyed the peacefulness of their golden years. After her husband's passing in 1997, Dot relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, to be closer to family and spend time playing many games of Mexican Train with her son and daughter-in-law. In Charleston, she found a new spiritual home at Seacoast Church, where she became a cherished member of the bulletin team, serving faithfully for over 20 years.
Dot is survived by her two sons, Rich (Patty) and Craig (Lee). Her legacy lives on through her four grandchildren, Ricky, Scott, Ashley (Brandon), and Jill (Brandon... but not the same one). Dot also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Rilee, Piper, and Alexander.
Dot’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith, love for family, and commitment to service. Her gentle spirit, strength, and kindness will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of Dot’s life will be held at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11:00am, and will be able to be viewed on our website. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dot’s memory to the USO or Tunnel to Towers.
A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com
