Dorothy was born on April 24 1922 in Columbia, South Carolina, daughter of the late James E. Cooper Sr., and Jennie Mae Cooper. She was an involved member of Ashley River Baptist Church. Dorothy graduated from Columbia High School in Columbia, South Carolina, and attended Draughon Business College.

During WW2, she worked in the US Signal Corps assembling radio communication devices for the military in NYC and later was employed as an accountant and bookkeeper for Fort Jackson and in Tennessee. I'm 1944 she married Marion S. Moore Jr., of Columbia, South Carolina, in Silver Springs, Colorado where they resided temporarily. Her husband had completed his tour of duty in Europe and was stationed there by the USAF as an instructor for new aviators.

Dorothy in turn took up a position as an accountant for the Colorado State Forestry Commission. In 1946 the couple relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where she was employed in accounting for Cannon Distributors. Her final years of formal employment were in accounting and bookkeeping for the United Fruit Company, importers of bananas from Cuba. She left the company in 1952 to begin her new career as homemaker and mother of two children.

Dorothy was a madly happy woman despite any adversity facing her, and brought laughter and joy to all she touched. She was proud of her title of Jitterbug Champion of S. C., won as a high school student in a state competition and she danced at every opportunity her entire life. She toured constantly with the Ashley River Baptist Church senior choir and persistently won the "Life Of the Party" awards given at the end of a long journey.

Dorothy was a lover of music and dance all through her twilight years and could still be seen dancing at music venues, accompanied by her son, into her mid 90's. She was an avid reader and read on a regular basis until her final days with nearly perfect uncorrected eyesight. She became a fixture in the Charleston music community and was considered a mascot for the Charleston Blues Club well after her 90's as well as the Charleston Jazz Society and attended many concerts, festivals and events. She had a great love of animals, especially her late tabby "Queenie", and her enthusiasm for everything was infectious. Her faith in God was unwavered and she professed that faith until her final hours and died in perfect peace.

She's gone, but not forgotten by anyone who had contact with her as a kind, loving, generous human being who was always full of mirth and completely selfless.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Moore Smith (Glenn), of Charleston, SC; and her son Marion "Max" Moore III, of Charleston, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Cheryl Perkins (Josh), Shannon Perminas (Asher), Linsey Moore Daughtery (Charlie), Lauren Ashley Moore, Michael Moore, and Jennifer Smith.

Memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy., Charleston, SC 29407.
