Dorothy Louise Monk

April 9, 1915 — June 4, 2010

Dorothy Louise True Monk, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly a resident of Isle of Palms, SC and widow of Lowell G. Monk passed away the morning of June 4, 2010.  The relatives and friends Dorothy Monk are invited to attend her Funeral Service in Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Monday June 7, 2010 at two-thirty o'clock. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC.  MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL.


Dorothy was born April 9, 1915 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Clark Jennings True and Caroline Reutinger True. Dorothy graduated from Portsmouth High in 1933. On September 25, 1948 she married Lowell Grant Monk. She was a legal secretary to Samuel Frowine in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she lived until 1965. She then served as medical office manager to Dr. Stewart Wolf in Baltimore, MD., where she retired in 1983; she then moved to the Isle of Palms, SC. Dorothy was a very active member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivan's Island, SC. She served as the Secretary and Treasurer for Presbyterian Woman and helped out where and whenever she could.  She enjoyed working at ECCO and was a long time member of East Cooper Meals on Wheels.  The subject of several articles in local publications, she always said she "loved every minute of her life in South Carolina, especially times spent in her residence on the Isle of Palms." After leaving "The Beach", she moved to Franke at Seaside in Mt. Pleasant, SC.


Dorothy is survived by her son, Jerry T. Dressler and his wife Dee Ann of Texas; her daughter, Penny L. Coriell and her husband Larry B, Sr. of Bellbrook, OH; her brother George F. True of Florida; her grandchildren, Larry B. Coriell, Jr and his wife Cecilia, Suellen L. Howard and her husband Joey of Ohio, Jeffrey M. Dressler of Texas; and her great grandchildren, Elizabeth D and Erik B. Coriell, Caroline L. and Bradley G Howard all of Ohio. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Mary M. Stapleton and Janet C. Chanson and her brothers James D. True and Jack A. True. She also leaves a host of friends and very special neighbors, Mary Jean, Milton & Joyce, and Delouris and Richard.
