Dorothy Clement Grant Sams Gervais

Dorothy "Diddie" Clement Grant Sams Gervais of Johns Island, South Carolina, died peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 86 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John Lewis Gervais, Jr. Her funeral service will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 in St. John's Parish Church, Johns Island at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Churchyard. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.

Born on February 6, 1928 in Charleston, SC, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Samuel Perry Sams and Dorothy Clement Grant Sams. She grew up in Ritter, SC and graduated from Walterboro High School and Montreat College. She attended the College of Charleston where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. She was also a member of St. John's Parish, Johns Island, where she faithfully served for many years on the altar guild and as a member of the Episcopal Church Women.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy G. Carter (Bill); two sons, John Lewis Gervais, III (Peggy) and Perry Grant Gervais (Lynn); six grandchildren, Julia B. Carter, Louisa G.C. Staton (Evan), Jennifer B. G. Gaffney (Chris), Samuel P. Gervais, Benjamin T. Gervais, John L. Gervais, IV; a sister, Mary Ann S. Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and grateful thanks to those who have helped them minister faithful and loving care to her: Joyce Tolbert, Linda Barron, Orlee Stroud, and the dedicated caring staff of Hospice of Charleston.
