Dorothy "Nana" Gay

October 17, 1932 — January 18, 2012

Dorothy Theresa Gockowski Gleiter Gay, 79, lovingly known as "Nana", went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Nana is survived by her son Gary John Gleiter of Hickory, NC; granddaughter Alicia Gleiter Ward (Justin) of Charleston, SC; three great-grandchildren: Jacob Wallace Ward, Noah Daniel Ward and Grace Elizabeth Ward of Charleston, SC; brother Lester Gockowski (Evelyn) of Coon Rapids, MN; sisters Margaret Stary (Donald) of Lady Lake, FL and JoAnne Schoonover of St. Paul, MN; sisters-in-law Pearl Gay Williams of Little Falls, MN and Linda Keller Webster of Brownsboro, AL; brother-in-law Thomas Thompson of Willmar, MN; and several cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She will be met in Heaven by her beloved parents, Sylvester and Ida Krzewinski Gockowski; her husbands Glenn Alfred Gleiter and Charlie Gay; sisters Lorraine Gockowski and Maryanne Thompson; and brother John Keller.

Dorothy was born October 17, 1932 in Saint Paul, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church where she attended school through 8th grade. She graduated from Washington High School in 1950. She took pride in her career as an accountant, working for decades at several large construction companies before retiring in 1986. After leaving Minnesota in 1960, she resided in Southern California for more than 30 years and spent her later years in Hickory, NC.

Nana loved baking, sewing, dancing, crafting, taking photos, all things pink and everything Polish. She was a proud member of the Polish National Alliance, the Polish American Association and St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Hickory, NC. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and admired her.

Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February, 18, 2012 at J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, (843) 881-9293. Family and friends are also invited to join the family for a celebration of life in Southern California on April 7, 2012. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
