Dorothy Gooding Braxton, 91, entered into eternal rest on July 14, 2024.
Dorothy was born on March 29, 1933, the 10th child of Maybelle Cook and William Hard Gooding, in Miley (Hampton County), SC. She was a graduate of Brunson High School in Brunson, SC. Dorothy (Dot) married the love of her life, Harry Braxton, Jr., of Charleston, on May 3, 1958, and enjoyed a happy life with him until his illness and death in 2015. She was always a caretaker and had provided care for him and several family members before they passed. Before Harry's illness and her retirement, Dot worked over 35 years in her civil service career, moving from SC to GA and then to TN, as Harry would get transferred. They moved back to Charleston when Harry retired and Dot finished her career with the Social Security Administration here. They enjoyed spending time at their house on Seabrook, sailing on their boat, playing tennis, vacationing and socializing with family and many longtime friends.
Dot was the widow of Harry Braxton, Jr. and was predeceased by her parents, 2 sisters and 6 brothers. She is survived by one daughter, Deniece (Deanie) Braxton Castillo (Bo), 2 grandchildren, Christina (Christi) Pitchford (Trey) and James (Jimmy) Cox (Rayna Logan), and 4 great-grandchildren, TJ, Taryn and Cole Pitchford, and Olivia Logan-Cox. She is also survived by 1 brother, Oddis Gooding of Crocketville, sister-in-law, Mable Gooding of Charleston, sister-in-law, Edyce Gooding of Aiken and many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Stuhr's Northwood Funeral Home, 2180 Greenridge Rd., North Charleston, SC on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
