Dorothy Henrics Baker

March 2, 1917 — November 28, 2015

Dorothy Henrics Baker, 98, of Charleston, SC, widow of William H. Baker went to be with our Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2015. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015 in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, December 4, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Dorothy was born March 2, 1917 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Henry W. and Elizabeth E. (Rantin) Henrics. She married Harold Gratzick in 1936. They had a son and two daughters. Dorothy was the Widow of William H. "Billy" Baker. After retirement from Geer Drug Company, Dorothy spent much of her time being an angel to her family, and friends. She comforted the sick with frequent cards and daily phone calls. She took pride in keeping herself, her home and her yard immaculate. She deeply loved Christmas! She enjoyed decorating each room of her house with a different theme each year, creating a holiday showcase inside and out. Dorothy was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, and a past member of the D.O.E.S. She was also a member of the Daughters of America where she served on the Orphan Fund Board, and served as Vice Councilor and State Councilor. She enjoyed entertaining the "Elderly" as an enthusiastic member of the singing band, St. Peter's Saints. She will be remembered as a loving, compassionate and beautiful soul.

Dorothy is survived by her two daughters; Linda Estee (AL) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Susan Matthiesen (Jim) of Jamestown, ND; three grandchildren, Rick Estee (Sandra) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Scott Wilson of Sunnyvale, CA, Karen Estee of Springfield, OR; two great-grandchildren, Summer Estee and Trevor Estee ; step-daughter-in-law, Irma Freeman (Bill); step-grandchildren, Allison Doughty Pickering and Ashley Doughty Parson and their families, all of TX; the entire Fralix family: The River's Girls, and a multitude of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Harold "Bubba" Gratzick Jr., two step-sons, Edward and Steven Doughty, two sisters, Ellen Fralix and Lucille Runkle, three brothers, Johnny Henrics, Leonard and Bernard Bastain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
