Dorothy Gillespie Ayer, affectionately known as "Dot", 81, wife of the late George E. Ayer of North Charleston, SC passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. The relatives and friends of "Dot" Ayer are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Friday, February 10, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC 29405 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the North Area Chapel from 7:00 until 9:00 pm.
Dot was born on October 18, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Guerard Gillespie and Jewel Porterfield Gillespie. She worked at the Charleston Naval Base Child Care Center and as a dietician with the Charleston County Hospital. She attended St. Andrew's International Pentecostal Holiness Church when her health permitted.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Burkett and her husband, Phil, of Plano, TX; two sons, G. Wayne Ayer of Charleston, SC and Steve R. Ayer and his wife, Lois, of North Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Mandy Shryock (Allen), Bryan Ayer (Miranda), Chris Ayer, Jonathan Ayer and Kimberly Ayer; two great grandchildren, Ryan and Layne Shryock; one sister, Elizabeth G. Williams of North Charleston, SC; one brother, Roy Gillespie of North Carolina and an adopted family member, Robert Platt.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff of Roper Hospital and to her many friends and church family.
