Doris Hattaway Vaden, 80, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of John B. Vaden met her heavenly father on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held at the graveside on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Tuesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
Doris was born April 6, 1937 in Tabor City, North Carolina, daughter of the late Carson Hattaway and the late Maude Tompkins Hattaway. She was one of two children. She moved to Mt. Pleasant to attend the College of Charleston and was a longtime resident of Mount Pleasant. She retired from the Department of Social Services. She will forever be remembered for her selfless giving to others and love for God, her family and multitude of friends.
Mrs. Vaden is survived by her husband, John B. Vaden of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Daphne Blue of Rose Hill, NC; son, Michael Cumbee of Moncks Corner, SC; daughter-in-law, Holly Dawson of Awendaw, SC; step-daughter, Joan Vaden Youngland and her husband Kevin of Lake Wylie, SC; granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Dawson and Amanda Youngland; grandsons, Brandon Cumbee Dawson and his wife, Jessica, Michael Cumbee and Connor Youngland; great-grandson, Conrad Dawson; nephew, W. Clay Blue and his wife, Noel; niece, Lisa Sutton and her husband, Will; and her much beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry M. Cumbee.
