Doris McClary Rollins, 87, of Charleston, SC, widow of Leland Gregory Rollins, Jr., entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 5, 2016. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016, in Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Road, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Doris was born February 5, 1929 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late William David McClary IV and Maria Mood McClary, but grew up in Summerton, SC. She was valedictorian of Summerton High School. Doris attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1950, as a member of Alpha Beta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa, and Chi Omega sorority. She was also the business manager of the Garnet and Black yearbook. Doris was a teacher for 20 years, most of which was spent at Harbor View Elementary School as a history teacher. After retiring from teaching, she entered the real estate business and was a successful realtor for Hamrick-Carter for 25 years. She was an active member of Harbor View Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, treasurer, choir member and Sunday School teacher.
Her greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends. Doris could often be found reading a book or watching her Gamecocks, all while having a cat napping on her lap.
She is survived by her son, L. Greg Rollins III (Karen) of Charleston, SC; her daughter, Doris "Clary" McClary Rollins of Arlington, VA; grandson, Blake Gregory Rollins of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Laura Nancy Rollins of Charleston, SC; two nephews: William David McClary VI of Summerton, SC, and Carl Reader McClary of Atlanta, GA; and niece, Jessica Markley Lee (Joe) of Sumter, SC. She was preceded in death by two brothers: William David McClary V, and Reader Mood McClary; and niece, Maureen Markley Bense.
