Doris was born February 5, 1929 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late William David McClary IV and Maria Mood McClary, but grew up in Summerton, SC. She was valedictorian of Summerton High School. Doris attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1950, as a member of Alpha Beta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa, and Chi Omega sorority. Her greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends. Doris could often be found reading a book or watching her Gamecocks, all while having a cat napping on her lap.
