Doris Young Heitman, 94, of Maryville TN, and previously Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Louis Heitman, entered into eternal rest Friday, July 29, 2022. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel at 12:00 p.m. Entombment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the West Ashley Chapel.
Doris was born December 4, 1927 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, daughter of the late John Howard Hodge and Estelle Bunn Hodge. Doris was a dedicated homemaker, with an active life, with many memories of her childhood on the farm in Alabama. She and Louis were members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Maryville, TN. She was a repeat recipient of Yard of the Month for Lantana Garden Club, and an active member of the Altar Guild and various committees for The Cathedral of St Luke St Paul, in Charleston, SC. Doris had a great love of all things handmade such as crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross-stitch, or quilting. She was always involved in one project or another for her children and stepchildren. You never saw her unless her project bag was by her side. She had a great respect for others needlework and could be caught buying pieces to add to her collection at antique and thrift stores when traveling. Her greatest joy was collecting old glassware and silver and silver-plate flatware to make complete sets for her and Louie's children and grandchildren. She played dominos and card games with her friends and family. We will never forget her love for life and her joy of being sure that all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren had gifts each birthday and Christmas (Signed by her: Love, Grandma and Granddaddy). She will be sorely missed by all her children, but we only have to turn our head, to see some reminder of her love for us. We will hold her in our hearts until we meet again.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Judy Ducker; three sons, Don Young (Dottie), Dan Young (Pam), and Robert "Bobby" Young (June); nine grandchildren, Steven Young, Timothy Young, Caraline Young McClellan (Bryan), Dan Young II (Kim), Kristin Strange (Adam), Heather Brown, Renee Dillman (Robert), Ryan Young (Rachael), and Erin Young; 13 great-grandchildren; five step-children, Rick Heitman, Alan Heitman (Julie), Larry Heitman (Marybeth), Ronnie Heitman (Cherie), and Shirley Lavy (Dennis); 12 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, Reuben Young; a brother, John Howard Hodges, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Kitchener and Katherine Lucille Dobbs; and a son-in-law, Dennis Ducker.
